Maine Lobster Company Takes Home Two Gold sofiTM Awards
Cundy's Harbor, ME – June 29, 2010 – Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co. has once again been awarded top industry honors for its innovative products. At a ceremony in New York City yesterday, the Maine company received two gold sofiTM Awards – the specialty food industry's most coveted accolade.
"We are delighted to win another sofi™ Award. It's an honor and we appreciate getting the recognition for our great gourmet products," said the company's founder and president Cal Hancock. The company's Port Clyde Lobster Mac & Cheese and its new Linekin Bay Lobster Corn Chowder each received a gold sofiTM Award (Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation) at the closing ceremonies of the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade's (NASFT) annual Summer Fancy Food Show.
"Our gourmet Lobster Mac & Cheese has been a hit ever since we introduced it in 2007. It's rich and delicious and, of course, loaded with big chunks of Maine lobster meat," Hancock said. "Our gourmet Lobster Corn Chowder is new and is a perfect combination of Maine lobster and sweet corn – both are great comfort foods." The Port Clyde Mac & Cheese won a gold sofi™ Award in the "Outstanding Frozen Savory" category, which includes frozen entrées, hors d'oeuvres, side dishes, pizzas, etc. It is made with Maine lobster and shell pasta enveloped by a creamy mascarpone-cheddar sauce and topped with a crunchy mix of panko bread crumbs, herbed butter, lemon zest and parmesan cheese. It was previously awarded a gold sofiTM Award in 2008 in the "Outstanding Pasta, Rice or Grain" category. The Linekin Bay Lobster Corn Chowder, introduced earlier this year, won a gold sofi™ Award in the "Outstanding Soup, Stew, Bean or Chili" category, which includes canned, jarred, fresh or frozen products, dry mixes, bases and broths. It combines tender Maine lobster meat with sweet yellow corn in a creamy, perfectly seasoned lobster stock.
Gold sofi™ Award winners were selected from more than 2200 gourmet product entries in 33 categories by a national panel of specialty food buyers. Winning a gold sofi™ Award exposes companies to a wide array of potential customers, because the specialty food industry looks at the results of this prestigious competition to discover emerging trends and innovative gourmet products.
