Hancock Gourmet Lobster Nominated for "Best in Show"

Innovative Maine Company adds fourth nomination

Cundy's Harbor, ME – June, 2011 – Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co. was selected as a finalist for "Best Product Line" in the National Association of Specialty Food Trade's 2011 sofi™ Product Awards Competition, the specialty food industry's most prestigious honor. The awards are considered the "Oscars" of the food industry. There are 32 categories of awards presented each year with the "Best Product Line" considered the "Best in Show" award. Hancock was also nominated as a finalist in three other categories thus being the only company garnering four nominations in one year. "We are thrilled to be nominated again for this very prestigious award," said founder and president Cal Hancock. "We make great products and this is a testament to that." Hancock has been creating value-added Maine lobster products for over 11 years and is widely viewed as the market leader.

The accolades, called sofiTM Awards (Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation), are awarded annually by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT) at its International Fancy Food Show. Hancock Gourmet's Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies, Orr's Island Oyster Stew and the Lobster Risotto on the Half Shell have already been selected by a national panel of specialty food buyers as finalists this year from a field of more than 1650 entries. Companies must have a minimum of six products in their product line to be eligible for the Best Product Line award. Hancock offers 15 products in their retail product line.

Judges consider quality, taste, innovativeness, ingredients, merchandisability, and best in class when determining finalists. The specialty food industry each year turns to the results of this competition to discover emerging trends, as well as the highest-quality, most innovative products. Hancock Gourmet has been nominated for the awards numerous times in its 11-year history, taking home Gold Awards for Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies (2003); Cundy's Harbor Lobster Stew (2007), Port Clyde Lobster Mac & Cheese (2008 and 2010), Spruce Head Smoked Scallop Lobster Bisque (2008), and Linekin Bay Lobster Corn Chowder (2010) . The company was previous a finalist for its Nubble Light Lobster Wellington (2005); for Best Product Line (2008). Category winners from this year's 31 sofiTM categories will be announced in Washington, DC on July 11.
