Cundy's Harbor, Maine – Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co. was selected as a finalist for "Best Product Line" in the National Association of Specialty Food Trade's 2008 sofi™ Product Awards Competition, the specialty food industry's most prestigious honor. There are 32 categories of awards presented each year with the "Best Product Line" considered the "Best in Show" award. Hancock was also nominated as a finalist in two other categories: Their Port Clyde Lobster Mac & Cheese was nominated as a finalist in the Outstanding Pasta, Rice or Grain category and their Spruce Head Smoked Scallop Lobster Bisque was nominated as a finalist in the Outstanding Soup, Stew, Bean or Chili category. The specialty food industry each year turns to the results of this competition to discover emerging trends, the highest-quality, most innovative products. Hancock's products were among more than 1500 products judged by a panel of specialty food buyers from around the country representing different buying segments such as small specialty food stores, supermarkets, natural food stores and upscale department stores. Judges considered quality, taste, uniqueness, salability, packaging, retail price, merchandisability and best in category in determining finalists. From the finalists, category winners will be chosen at the NASFT Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City on Monday, June 30, 2008. Hancock has previously won for their Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies in 2003; was a finalist for the Nubble Light Lobster Wellington in 2005; and won at last year's competition for their Cundy's Harbor Lobster Stew.
