Hancock Gourmet Lobster Wins Gold at the Fancy Food Show

National Award Winner: Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies from Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co.

New York, June 30, 2003 – At the National Association of Specialty Food Trade 2003 Summer Fancy Food Show here yesterday, Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co.'s Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies won the Outstanding Meat, Pate or Seafood Category of the Product Awards Competition.

Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies were judged by a panel of specialty food buyers from around the country who considered quality, taste, uniqueness, salability, packaging, retail price and merchandisability in determining finalists. Other finalists in the category included Charlie Trotter Foods: Charlie Trotter's Curry & Fennel Duck Leg Confit; Les Trois Petits Cochons: Mousse de Canard au Foie Gras; Power-Selles Imports: Sisquet Sardines in Olive Oil; Stonington Sea Products, Inc.: Smoked Atlantic Salmon.

"We developed the pies using a traditional Maine pot pie recipe of my grandmother as the foundation," said company president Cal Hancock. "From there, we added some whimsy and fun with the lobster-shaped puff pastry. It's been a great success: customers order and re-order again and again. The product represents the personality of our company: a combination of Downeast hardiness and contemporary chic."

Pemaquid Point Lobster Pot Pies are sold in sets of four individual servings of lobster meat and sherry cream sauce, topped with lobster-shaped puff pastry. Introduced to the marketplace in the fall of 2003, the product has become the company's second-best seller.
